On 7th-8th September 2009, H.E. Mr. Zhang Gaoli, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee led a CPC delegation and paid a transit visit to Brunei Darussalam.

During H.E. Mr. Zhang Gaoli's stay in Brunei Darussalam, he met H.R.H. Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam, who later held a welcome banquet for his delegation. H.E. Mr. Zhang Gaoli's delegation also visited the Royal Regalia and Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
