| Chinese General Chen Bingde visits Brunei |

HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and the Minister of Defence, received in audience His Excellency General Chen Bingde, a member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of The General Armament Department People's Liberation Army, the People's Republic of China, at the Istana Nurul Iman yesterday afternoon.
Accompanying the General were the Commander of the RBAF, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Halbi Haji Md Yussof and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, Her Excellency Tong Xiaoling.
The Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Datin Paduka Hajah Salbiah Haji Sulaiman and the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dato Paduka Haji Rashid Haji Abd Rahman were also present at the ceremony.
His Excellency General Chen also paid an official visit to the Ministry of Defence and the RBAF headquarters a day before.
During the visit, the General paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Pehin Datu Singamenteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin Haji Umar.
Prior to the courtesy call, the General was presented with the General Salute ceremony by the guard of honour mounted by personnel of the Royal Brunei Land Forces.
After the courtesy call, General Chen met the RBAF Commander, Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi Haji Md Yussof at the conference room where the General and his delegation were given a presentation on the organisational structure of the Ministry of Defence and RBAF, followed by a video presentation on the Defence White Paper.
The three-day working visit by General Chen aims to strengthen the long friendly relations between both countries.
It also provides an opportunity to explore cooperation pertaining to defence between the RBAF and the People's Liberation Army.
